Auset (Azacitidine Tablets) is an oral anticancer medicine containing Azacitidine, a hypomethylating agent used in the treatment of specific blood cancers. It works by inhibiting abnormal DNA methylation, helping restore normal bone marrow function, slowing the growth of cancer cells, and promoting the production of healthy blood cells. Oral azacitidine is primarily used as maintenance therapy for adults with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) who have achieved remission after intensive chemotherapy but are not candidates for further curative treatment.
Key Benefits
Helps maintain remission in adults with acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
Slows the growth and spread of abnormal leukemia cells.
Supports the production of healthy blood cells.
Convenient oral tablet formulation for prescribed treatment cycles.
May help prolong relapse-free and overall survival in eligible patients.
Indications
Auset (Azacitidine Tablets) is prescribed for:
Maintenance treatment of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in adults who have achieved complete remission (CR) or complete remission with incomplete blood count recovery (CRi) after induction chemotherapy and are unable to complete intensive curative therapy.
How It Works
Azacitidine is a DNA hypomethylating agent that inhibits DNA methyltransferase enzymes. This action can reactivate tumor-suppressor genes and interfere with the growth and survival of leukemia cells, helping control disease progression.
Dosage and Administration
Take exactly as prescribed by your oncologist.
Tablets are swallowed whole with water and should not be crushed, chewed, or split.
Treatment is given in repeated cycles according to your doctor's instructions.
Regular blood tests are required to monitor blood cell counts and treatment response.
Possible Side Effects
Common side effects may include:
Nausea and vomiting
Diarrhea or constipation
Fatigue
Decreased appetite
Low white blood cell count (neutropenia)
Low platelet count (thrombocytopenia)
Anemia
Fever or infections due to reduced immunity
Precautions
Use only under the supervision of an experienced oncologist.
Routine monitoring of complete blood counts is essential.
Inform your doctor about liver or kidney disease, infections, or other medical conditions.
Effective contraception should be used during treatment, as azacitidine may harm an unborn baby.
Do not substitute oral azacitidine tablets for injectable azacitidine, as they have different approved uses and dosing schedules.
